About

A curious problem solver in operations, processes, and the tools that connect them.

Chris Bertrand

I'm Chris Bertrand. I spent fifteen years inside operations teams at life-sciences, engineering, and architecture/design-build firms, coordinating projects, untangling processes, and helping scale functions through growth and acquisition. I started my consulting practice in 2025.

I help small and medium businesses, growing associations, and other organizations clean up the processes that hold their work together.

My approach

Discovery first. Refresh second.

Every engagement starts with discovery. Before I consult on a refresh, I want to see how work actually happens, who's involved, which tools they use, where things get stuck. From there, I:

The goal isn't a new process diagram on the wall. It's a way of working your team understands, owns, and can keep improving.

Recent engagements

Where I work now.

A growing membership association

  • Building internal tools to support members and operations (Python, SQL)
  • Designing processes that scale as the membership grows
  • Documenting workflows so the team can run them without me

A hardware & software product company

  • Marketing, technical documentation, and product testing
  • Computer system validation (CSV) work for regulated environments
  • Helping the team turn engineering work into customer-ready deliverables

A small local bakery

  • Bookkeeping, customer service, and website updates & design
  • Helping the day-to-day run smoothly behind the scenes
  • The kind of generalist support a small business owner can't always afford to hire for

Before going independent

Fifteen years inside life-sciences, engineering, and architecture/design-build firms. I supported operations and workplace functions, coordinated multi-site offices and vendor relationships, contributed to A&E design-build and CAPEX projects valued at $300M+, helped one organization grow from startup to 70+ employees, and helped maintain a high audit success rate through structured processes and documentation.

Tools I've lived in

SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Sage 300, Procore, Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365, Power BI, Tableau, Asana, Jira, Google Workspace, Python, SQL.

What I'm learning

Coursework in computer science and AI for business operations. Quietly experimenting with how AI agents can take repetitive work off the team's plate.

Want to talk through your operations?

Send me a note about where things are (or where you want them to go). I'll follow up within two business days.
